Loser’s hubby cops it

From Sydney Confidential

Article from: The Daily Telegraph

A FAT-fighter on the upcoming series of The Biggest Loser will use the reality series to out her husband, a New South Wales police officer, for allegedly having an affair with a slimmer woman.

If revenge is sweet, Kelly Donaghy Lewis, 28, will never need to eat another doughnut again.

A detective from NSW Police, Kelly claims she was motivated to shed weight from her 117kg frame last year after discovering her husband of three years was having an affair with a “Paris Hilton lookalike”.

Painting herself as the pin-up for dumped wives across Australia, the mother of two says she intercepted “sex messages” from a “streamlined blonde” who she claims was sleeping with her husband.

Sean Lewis, a sergeant at the Surry Hills police station, firmly denied he cheated when contacted by Confidential yesterday – but will not be able to stop his wife’s bitter tale from being splashed across national TV when the show premieres on Channel 10 this Sunday night.

“I’m aware what she’s saying and I’m seeking legal advice because it’s not true but I’m not getting into a public slanging match,” Mr Lewis said.

“If I wanted to leave her because she was overweight then I would have done that 6½ years ago,” he said.

Including every tawdry detail in her revelations to the producers of the fat-busting series, Kelly even claims her husband’s new lover told her she brought on the affair by gaining so much weight during the marriage.

“Kelly has a single-minded determination to radically change her appearance, regain her formerly slim figure and thumb her nose at the couple who wrecked her family life,” a statement from the program said.

Note from Jac:

I was lucky enough to be invited for the presentation for the 2006 Brett Whitely Travelling Art Scholarship, at the Brett Whitely Studio in Surry Hills. The event was opened by (very funny) sydney based comic Peter Berner and hosted by AGNSW Director  Edmund Capon. Brett’s mother Beryl established the award in 1999 and was in attendance for the formal presentation along with Brett’s formwer Wife Wendy & sister Fran Hopkirk.

Below the article are some pictures I took of the studio.

Samuel Wade from Kings Cross in Sydney is the winner of the eighth Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship for his work Grey Day at Central,  2006, oil on linen.

119 entries were received from around Australia, of which 22 are included in the finalists’ exhibition at the Brett Whiteley Studio on display until 26 November 2006.
27 year-old Samuel Wade studied at the Julian Ashton Art School in the Rocks. He is a full-time practising artist and tutor, and has participated in several group and solo exhibitions. He has been a finalist in the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship in 2000 and 2004.
Tasmanian born Samuel Wade came to Sydney to become an artist. Paul Delprat, principal of the Julian Ashton Art School was so impressed with his artistic abilities that after he completed a one year scholarship in 1997, Samuel Wade became the youngest teacher at the school at just 18 years of age.
In 2004, Mrs Beryl Whiteley was awarded an OAM for the creation and endowment of the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship. The inspiration for this annual scholarship was the profound effect of international travel and study experienced by her son, Brett Whiteley, as a result of winning the Italian Travelling Art Scholarship at the age of 20.
The Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship is open to Australian artists aged between 20 and 30 years. The winner is awarded $25,000 and a three month residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, which is administered by the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
The judges for the 2006 Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship were artist, Garry Shead, Art Gallery of New South Wales Director, Edmund Capon and Barry Pearce, the Gallery’s Head Curator of Australian Art.
Garry Shead commenting on Wade’s winning work said “Samuel’s paintings engage the viewer through their subject matter; moments glimpsed from the artists’s own life. These moments captured in the painting are deeply felt, often sensual and tender but with an edge which gives his work an underlying tension. He is only able to achieve all this because of his excellent technical ability and a sound formal training in the discipline of painting.
Finalists’ paintings will be exhibited at the Brett Whiteley Studio until 26 November 2006.
